Belarus accuses 'Russian mercenaries' of election plot
Experts in slotxo Belarus state they have captured 33 speculated Russian soldiers
of fortune accepted to plot "fear mongering" in front of the nation's 9 August
presidential political decision.Russia is looking for explanation on the captures,
a Kremlin representative said.
Dmitry Peskov said he knew nothing of a plot or the Wagner paramilitary gathering,
which Belarus suspects of inclusion.
President Alexander Lukashenko has been in power since 1994 and is looking for
a 6th term in office.
He has applied dictator power over Belarus in a style suggestive of the Soviet time
and has confronted an influx of resistance fights over his re-appointment offer.
Since the breakdown of the USSR in 1991 Russia has kept up close binds with Belarus
and they have held joint military activities.
The secretary of the Belarus Security Council, Andrey Rawkow, said examiners
suspected upwards of 200 Russian soldiers of fortune had entered the nation to
"destabilize the circumstance during the political race".
